Why now
The safety net is contracting
Across the United States in 2026, the institutions meant to protect people are stepping back. The Office on Violence Against Women is operating under a proposed 30% budget cut. Federal funding for women's services dropped 28% in 2023 while demand grew 34%. An estimated 680,000 women and children stand to lose access to lifesaving services. Title IX coverage on college campuses has been functionally rolled back. Personal safety tools matter more than ever. Soteria fills the gap.

92% of women runners report safety concerns. 38% have experienced physical or verbal harassment on a run, and 69% take specific precautions before they head out the door.
Walking alone at night
31% of women in the EU have experienced physical violence or threats, or sexual violence, since the age of 15. One in five has experienced stalking, and one in two has faced sexual harassment.
Survivors leaving abusers
When prosecuted, domestic sexual assault cases have a 98% conviction rate. Most never get prosecuted without independent evidence.

Late-night workers
Real estate agents, nurses, delivery workers, and anyone alone in unfamiliar locations during off-hours. Workplace violence is a recognized hazard wherever staff work alone or in the field.
Online dating and first dates
56% of women under 50 who have used a dating site or app report being sent sexually explicit messages or images they did not ask for. Many first-date assaults go unreported because there is no independent record.

More than 1 in 5 women experiences stalking in her lifetime. Tamper-evident documentation of harassment patterns supports protective orders and prosecution, but most stalking is undocumented.
Healthcare workers in patient homes

Tap once to start a session. During an active session, Soteria listens for your safe word and other voice triggers, so your phone can stay in your pocket. Voice activation outside an active session depends on your device and browser; iOS Safari and most background modes do not support it. Record
Audio is captured and transcribed on-device in real time. GPS locks your location continuously.
Alert
Emergency contacts are notified automatically by email with your location, alert type, and live transcript updates.
Preserve
The moment a session ends, every recording is sealed and locked together in the order it happened. Held on your device, a preserved session cannot be edited or quietly deleted. The record stays exactly as it was captured.

Set a duress phrase for moments of coercion. When someone forces you to delete a session, entering the phrase shows them an identical deletion while the recording moves silently to a hidden recovery vault only you can reach.

Install on your phone in seconds
Soteria is a Progressive Web App. Open app.soteria.lonia.ai on your phone, then add it to your home screen. Soteria installs like any other app, with offline capability and full-screen mode.
On Android (Chrome): tap the three-dot menu in the top right, then tap "Install app" or "Add to Home screen."
On iOS (Safari): tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen, then tap "Add to Home Screen."
